New Pastor at Roxborough Baptist Church
- Name: Exciting changes ahead for Roxborough Baptist
- Occasion: Calling of Pastor
Roxborough Baptist Church is happy to announce that Rev. Richard Sparling has been called as the part-time pastor of the church. Pastor Rich started October 1st and is settling in and getting to know our community.
Pastor Rich grew up as the son of a pastor and accepted Christ to be his Savior at an early age and learned the value and joy of serving God. He grew up on the sports field playing soccer and baseball, attended a Bible college where he continued to play sports and after college played semi-pro soccer still knowing that God wanted him in "ministry".
Over the years, through schooling, coaching, teaching and studying, he and his wife sensed that there was something more and something new that God was going to let them experience. They saw all the opportunities that young people have in the United States and realized that most of the world does not have teachers, has not read the Bible, and did not know how much God loves us. So Pastor Rich set off to the Dominican Republic with his wife, Beverly and their children as missionaries. Plato is quoted as having said, "You can know more about a man after an hour of play than a full year of conversation." His family really found that to be the case during the time they were involved in starting two churches. Both came about as a result of God using a sports ministry approach.
Pastor Rich is in his thirteenth year serving with Baseball Chapel as the chapel leader of the Philadelphia Phillies. In 2009 the Lord led him to start Torch Sport Ministry which includes a high level soccer ministry called The BuxMont Torch FC where they committed to “Igniting a Global Passion for Sport Ministry.” An element of this has opened the door to be an adjunct professor at the iLEAD Center, Lancaster Bible College graduate school in the sports Ministry program and the Graduate Sport Ministry Program Advisor. He and his wife, Bev have been married for 34 years and both their children, Richie and Brittany, love and are serving the Lord.
We invite you to visit us as we look to the future and we are confident in what the Lord will do here at Roxborough Baptist Church (6035 Ridge Avenue).
"So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind" (1 Cor 14:15).
