Complex Calls Four Manayunk Bars City's 'Douchiest'
Do you agree with website's assessment of four Main Street establishments?
The website Complex City Guide compiled a list of what it calls the city of Philadelphia's "douchiest" bars. In a slide show photo gallery, it details what the atmosphere is like at these establishments and why they should make the list.
Four Manayunk bars earned the less-than-favorable distinction from Complex. Those places include Mad River, Kildare's Irish Pub, Manayunk Brewery and JD McGillicuddys.
The list may be representative but it essentially is also a top 25 list of bars that cater to young people. Heavy hitters like McFaddens, Cavannagh's and Finnegans top the list. In addition, areas with a high propensity of bars—Spring Garden, South Street, and Old City—like Manayunk, had more on the list.
It should be noted, if anything else, each of the four Manayunk bars often serve as hosts for charitable events throughout the year. Even if their clientele may cause trouble, the owners have given back to the community.

First, I'd like to say that more things should be ranked by their douche factor.
Second, Kildare's isn't so bad. They have a decent beer selection and their bartenders are nice Sapphire, for instance, is teeming with douchebags. Ladies included.

I think the shoe fits for Mad River, mainly because of their Friday and Saturday night clientele, and Cuddy's mainly because I've stepped in overflowing toilet water one too many times when going there. I think Kildare's is always a mix of people and as noted, is not a bad place to sit and have a drink.

I think there's a case to be made for all these places, but, like I said in the article, the list really is just the top 25 bars for college kids.

I think that it's funny that you think this is news. Headline should be, "Douchiest Website Names Douchiest Bars" and it should be reported on by the Onion. Thanks to you, I now know another douchy website that I otherwise would have never heard of. I should stop looking at Patch.

Sorry you feel that way, Howard. We try to present things that people are talking about, whether positively or negatively about the area. People have brought up the list to me a few different times over the past few days.
Due to the constant complaints I receive from residents about bars in the neighborhood, it seemed worthy of a conversation.

Just a heads up, we've removed some comments for violating our terms of service. We certainly encourage a lively debate, but we can't accept personal attacks.

It's interesting how an innocent article can take such an extreme turn. What happened to, if you don't like something just ignore it. A personal attack, whatever it was, is certainly not necessary here. Grow up y'all.

Hey Sam,
Thanks for the article. At first I ignored it, but finally read it. I'm glad I did as it will save me the trouble of checking out Mad River. I'll still go to Kildaires, though, as I think it's a good place and the food is decent. It's definitely a different place when the 20 somethings descend on it, though, so I leave before 11. I guess I'm getting old!
