EcoArts Festival Vendor Slots Going Fast
The deadline for businesses and non-profits comes on Aug. 31, but it appears the MDC will accept applications until each spot is filled.
On Sept. 24, Manayunk will kick off its second annual EcoArts Festival on the same Main Street strip Hurricane Irene flooded on Sunday. This coincidence hasn't skirted the notice of Manayunk Development Corporation executive director Jane Lipton.
"I don't want to say it was caused by global warming or climate change," said Lipton, "but like [Hurricane] Floyd, they said this was a once-every-hundred-year storm." And as Lipton pointed out, these days the "hundred year" storms seem to be coming a lot more frequently than that.
Enter the EcoArts Festival. A horde of ecologically interested artists, businesses, and consumers will converge on Main Street for two days of information sharing on green and sustainable living. Last year's event drew 25,000, and this year the MDC is expecting 30,000 attendees.
In addition to a series of lectures on ecologically sound living and the green art and business kiosks that will line Main Street, there will be a car show featuring vehicles whose fuel efficiency exceeds 28 miles per gallon.
There are, as of Aug. 29, still nine spots available for artists, 10 for businesses, four for non-profits, and two lecture opportunities. Each participant gets a 10-feet by 10-feet area to showcase their wares.
While the entry deadline for businesses and non-profits is Aug. 31 and the deadline for artists has already passed, interested parties are encouraged to contact Martha Vidauri at mvidauri@manayunk.org. Prospective lecturers are asked to contact Howard Moseley at hmoseley@manayunk.org.
The festival runs Saturday, Sept. 24 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sept. 25 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.on Main Street between Levering Street and Lock Street.
