Starting Wednesday at the RDC office, 6111 Ridge Ave., the regional historic preservation group offers four weekly sessions on various home repair subjects. Each workshop is free but requires advanced registration.
The classes include info on:
- Historic porches and wood repairs
- Masonry and pointing
- Historic wood windows
- Paints and color placement
Each sessions starts at 6:30 p.m., and the program runs through April 25.
Roxborough is one of two city neighborhoods (Logan being the other) to host the April workshops. The local one is more hands on, with the Logan session a lecture.
"Don't miss this great opportunity to meet the conservation staff of the Fairmount Park Historic Preservation Trust, who will present these popular demonstration workshops," according to an event flyer.
In March, the Preservation Alliance awarded Roxborough residents, through the RDC, with a Vital Neighborhoods Initiative grant, which allocates $30,000 to historical homes on Lyceum Avenue.
At 5:30 p.m. April 4, an info session will take place at the RDC for homeowners to find out more about the grants. The intention is for buildings to retain historical characters and a focus will be on porches.
To register for the homeowner classes, contact Melissa Jest at 215-546-1146 ext. 6 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
