This sort of behavior is becoming the norm, so sad. What is happening to the neighborhood is shameful.

Well, this can happen anywhere even in good neighborhoods. It happens in the suburbs too.

Wendy, this was the "norm" in Manayunk back in the 1970's and 80's. Lower Krams and Baker streets were a booming drug market. Baker street was a heroin market. Most recent residents do not know how bad it was in some small sections of Manayunk. There were gangs that controlled certain blocks, although none compare to what the city and country see nowadays. You would not recognize Main street from 30 years ago. Where the quaint little park at Main and Conarroe is, well that use to be a motorcycle shop called The Chopper Shop, a Pagan MC hangout. It was shut down for fights, drugs, etc. The property was taken for tax delinquincy and after the building razed was turned over to the community. Derek's place at Gay and Main use to be a machine shop where the owner hated all foreigners and anything foreign. What a pleasant fella he was to deal with. Sips steaks was known as a fencing front , you know, the buyer of stolen property. The owner was arrested and served time for the fencing charges. Believe me, Manayunk has seen worse, just as long as it does not get worse.

Hey, the owner of Sips - you must be talking about Rocky. I heard things about him, but he was always nice to me and I always liked him. R.I.P. Rocky!

Al, I am not sure of the name of the guy at Sips, but it was the owner back 30 years ago. I knew it then but can't remember it now. The news article about Sip's was in the Review every week when it was going on.
