School District Honors NW Philly High School Teachers

Educators to receive Lindback award Tuesday.

More than 60 high school teachers from the School District of Philadelphia are set to receive awards and prize money Tuesday night for outstanding teaching.

For the fifth consecutive year, the district will award one high school teacher from every Philadelphia public school with a Distinguished Teaching Award created by the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation. Each teacher will receive $3,500 from the foundation. That includes teachers from Roxborough, Saul, Lankenau and Germantown high schools.

Fellow teachers and students nominated educators. Principals then endorsed the winners.

Local winners include:

  • Roxborough—Steven Weber
  • Saul—Mike Thompson
  • Lankenau—Thomas Wolfinger
  • Germantown—Joan Bommentre

On Tuesday, teachers will receive their awards at the Prince Music Theater in Center City. Mayor Michael Nutter, acting Superintendent Tom Knudsen, School Reform Commission Commissioner Feather Houston, and Philadelphia Federation of Teachers President Jerry Jordan will be on hand, in addition to Lindback Foundation Trustees Sheldon M. Bonovitz, David E. Loder and Reginald J. Middleton.
