Should Philadelphia Eagles Coach Reid Stay or Go?
Philadelphia Eagles Coach Andy Reid is under fire for his team's play this year. Could this be the end of his tenure?
Should he stay or should he go?
With the Philadelphia Eagles playing at 3-6 and on a five-game losing streak, is Coach Andy Reid a goner after the season ends?
Probably. But maybe not.
There's talk that owner Jeff Lurie could call Reid back into action for his 15th year next year, even though the owner stated at the end of last year that the team needed significant progress and improvement from its 8-8 record last year.
After all, Reid went into the season facing the death of his son Garrett during the preseason at training camp at Lehigh University.
Also, Reid has one final year remaining on his contract, so Lurie could cut the coach some slack and let him play out his hand.
That, of course, would come at the expense of the fans, who are calling for Reid's ouster.
Granted, it's been a tough two years, but Reid will go down as the greatest coach in franchise history. He's taken this team to levels never reached before.
The offensive line was devastated by injuries and now quarterback Michael Vick is out with a concussion.
Maybe Reid can show that he can develop rookie Nick Foles into a star with the remaining games this year, including one Sunday against the Washington Redskins.
Most fans are hopeful about Foles and that might keep them hanging in there for another bad season.
It's obvious that big changes are needed. The offensive line and defense need an overhaul.
Sometimes, like baseball, managers are allowed to come back if they get rid of all of their coaches.
Would that be offered to Reid?
Lurie is loyal, but maybe only to a point. He could be driven out of town if he keeps Reid next year and he won't be held as a man of his word after his speech last year.
If the Birds continue to flop, Reid should be a goner. But stranger things have happened.
So maybe Reid gets a mulligan this year. Maybe he comes back to coach.
It will be interesting to see how this season plays out.
