Starfinder Receives $50k for High School Program

Manayunk youth soccer group recognized by Fund for Children of the Philadelphia Foundation.

Providing afterschool athletic and education programming for area young adults, the  received a $50,000 grant from a local children's foundation.

The Fund for Children of The Philadelphia Foundation announced the grant, which will benefit high school students in the Starfinder's Senior Leaders program.

"Thanks to the support from the Fund for Children of The Philadelphia Foundation we are able to enhance and grow our highly-effective Senior Leaders program," Starfinder President Stephen Baumann said in a news release. "This program has proven results, with 100 percent of our Seniors Leaders graduating from high school and 83 percent continuing on to further education."

In its third year, the Starfinder Senior Leaders program provides 115 high school students opportunities for leadership projects that cultivate initiative, teamwork, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.

According to Starfinder, "participants will focus on leadership development, media literacy, college admittance preparation, community service projects, and health and wellness education."

Later this year, 30 Senior Leaders who excelled in the program will be selected and paid to take leadership roles in the Starfinder summer program.

In February, the Walmart Foundation for Starfinder's "Get Fit, Eat Right, Grow Strong" program.
