Streets Department Offers Hazardous Waste Drop-off Location

Event encourages residents to donate Hazardous Waste to prevent improper disposal.

The Street Department's Sanitation Division can help residents clear their homes of volatile chemicals, such as used motor oil, and pesticides, to oil-based paints and old gasoline. These are just some of the items comprising Household Hazardous Waste that can cause serious problems if disposed of incorrectly, the Streets Department says. Residents can drop off unwanted chemicals at the Street Department's Northwest Transfer Station at Domino Lane and Umbria Street until 3 p.m Thursday, July 26. Those signed up for Philadelphia's Recycling Rewards program are offered an added incentive, as a coded card worth 100 points will be given out to those who bring in their waste. The event is for residents only, and no materials from businesses will be accepted. For additional information about what materials will be accepted, contact the Streets Department's Customer Affairs Unit at (215) 686-5560.
