Taxi Cab Slams Into Ridge Avenue Shoe Store

Fire department reports one person was injured.

Avoiding a pedestrian crossing Ridge Avenue, a taxi driver lost control of his vehicle and slammed into a Roxborough shoe store Thursday afternoon.

Property owner Stuart Lacheen said around 2:30 p.m. a Philadelphia Coach Taxi Cab drove through the storefront of , 6186-6188 Ridge Ave. 

"This is not something anyone could have stopped. Someone crossed the street where they shouldn't have and forced the cab to change direction and cause this accident," he said.

Several news agencies have reported that one person was injured, with NewsWorks and NBC 10 saying the pedestrian was taken to the Temple University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Lacheen was under the impression that "no one was majorly hurt—that's the main thing," he said.

The cab crashed through the store entrance closer to Leverington Avenue. There are two storefronts at the property. He said Sneaker Town has rented the space for three years.

After consulting his insurance company, the owner said the storefront should be repaired within two weeks.

Philadelphia fire and police did not immediately have information for comment.
