Last week I asked readers to identify the location of a photo of a man grabbing a tire standing next to an old car.

There were several guesses as to the location of the photo, but far and away my favorite was by reader Dennis McGuinn who wrote:

It's on 76 Expressway overlooking the Manayunk Canal and Manayunk, just before Shurs Lane point of Main Street...scene of a nasty accident....I remember it like yesterday...they caught me red handed stealing that tire

The actual answer is that the photo was taken in 1938 at a junkyard on Ridge Ave. Unfortunately the exact location of Ridge Ave. is unknown, so if anyone has any ideas please feel free to share.

Once again, thanks for playing and be sure to check back next week for another round of "Then and Now."

Looks like Ridge and Main Street. In the background it looks like a steel mill,
which would be the old Penncoyd Iron / Carnegie-Illinois Steel mill where the Duron Paint and the storage units.
