Water Rising; Cars at a Standstill
Traffic and flooding are impacting the Manayunk-Roxborough area.
It seems like deja-vu. Just about two weeks after Hurricane Irene soaked the Roxborough-Manayunk area, it is flooding again.
Main Street is closed at Shurs Lane due to flooding and it was reported earlier that Ridge Avenue at the I-76 Interchange was closed because of a mudslide.
A flood warning is in effect for the Philadelphia area until 4:30 p.m. Thursday. A flood warning for the Schuylkill river is in effect until further notice.
The flood stage for the Schuylkill River is 11 feet, at 11 a.m. Thursday is was as 12.5 feet, an alert from ReadyNotifyPA said, adding that minor flooding is occuring and minor flooding is forecast.
The weather also seems to be wreaking havoc on traffic in the area. Hours after the typical rush-hour traffic, many roads in Manayunk and Roxborough are still heavily congested
As of just before 12 p.m., Green Lane is backed up from Main to Silverwood as is Leverington and both sides of Ridge Avenue were heavily congested in the area of Pensdale. Traffic on Main Street toward Green Lane is at a standstill from Shurs to Green Lane.

Venice Lofts residents were evacuated during the overnight, as Flat Rock Rd had started to flood. Residents are unsure of when they can return, likely after the river returns back to sub-Flood stage levels.

Magik, are you a resident of the lofts?

I'm a newer resident of Manayunk and live near Couch Tomato on Main Street. Any idea on the likelihood of that section of Main Street closing today? I was just worried about getting home.

Sam, welcome to Manayunk! Two weeks ago during Irene Main Street and Shurs flooded and the Venice Apartments (in the area of Leverington and Main) flooded. It did not come up as far as the Couch Tomato. That being said, you never know with this weather but I will keep the site as up-to-date as I can with road closings and flooding!

Jesse - I am a resident of the VL complex, so you can imagine the frustration of having to evacuate twice within a two week period. So far, the flooding on Flat Rock Rd doesn't seem too bad, and the river stages seem to have stabilized at the moment. At this point, it's a matter of waiting for the waters to recede so we can return home. Until then, we've been displaced from the complex.

That must be very frustrating, when were you evacuated? I was just down there and the entire entrance is blocked off.

We left in the early hours - before dawn - and it wasn't as bad as I expected. Last week I saw that whole area filled with 4 ft of water, so I'm not expecting it to be as bad this time.
