COUNTDOWN TO WOMEN'S NIGHT OUT! 10/24/13

One week to go before you can be the first to do your Holiday Shopping on Thursday, October 24, 2013 from 4 pm to 8 pm at the 9th annual Women’s Night Out (WNO) sponsored by Soroptimist International of Roxborough, PA.  WNO, at The Salvation Army, Roxborough Community Center, 6730 Ridge Ave., has grown and will showcase over 35+ women-owned businesses and unique vendors – members, crafters, and artisans – in this one-stop shopping venue.  Admission to this event is a non-perishable food item to support The Food Pantry at The Salvation Army.  “Thank you in advance for helping neighbors in need!”

This fund-raiser helps to improve the lives of women and girls.

Applicants are welcomed to stop by to shop and pick up application forms for the following cash awards:

·     Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award recognizes girls (ages 14-17) for their leadership and community service.  Awards begin at the local club level.  (Currently, the 1st prize winner receives $250; the 2nd prize winner receives $150.)  Clubs’ 1st place winner’s application will be submitted to and considered at higher levels of Soroptimist.

·     Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Awards program provides cash grants for higher education to women, financial heads of households demonstrating financial need, who are working to better their lives through additional skills training and education.  Awards begin at the local club level.  (The school of the 1st prize winner receives $500 to help defray the cost of the winner’s education.)  Clubs’ 1st place winner’s application will be submitted to and considered at higher levels of Soroptimist.  Three top awards ($10,000 each) are granted.

Women’s Night Out will be held in the big gym accessible via elevator, stairs, or the rear parking lot.  Relax while shopping with a comforting massage, compliments of Great Life Chiropractic.  Shop for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Chanukah, and Christmas gifts and décor.  Soroptimist members will welcome each shopper as they share information and distribute application forms for the Women’s Opportunity Awards and the Violet Richardson Award programs at the Soroptimist Renaissance table.   Shoppers will be encouraged to participate in the Basket Raffle, if they so desire, and to enjoy a bite to eat at the Fireman’s Café.

 

Be ready for a surprise or two as the Soroptimists plan a creative fundraising way to distribute items from the Giving Tree with support from local businesses.  Thanks for their donations go to the following businesses (to date):  All Season Car Wash, Applebee’s, Carl Venezia Meats, Casselli's Ristorante, Chick-fil-A (Plymouth Meeting Mall), Couch Tomato, Cabot Creamery Co-op, Chubby's Cheesesteaks, Daiva's Diner & Grill, From the Boot (Lafayette Hill), Hair Jazz, Kitch-n Collectibles, Kuts & Kolors, Maria's Pizza & Pasta, Natural Nails, Panera Bread, Roma's Pizza, Secret Garden, Stanley's Hardware, T&F Farmers Market, and World Wide Aquarium.

There will be something of interest for people of all ages.  Gentlemen are welcomed and encouraged to shop for their ladies at Women’s Night Out, too!  Items classified as accessories plus will be available from:  Avon, Gigi & Bette, Honest John - Socks for All Seasons, La Bella Accessories, Leopard Ladies, Mary Kay, Miche Bags, & Thirty-One Gifts.  Home Accent items will be available from: eCosway - Natural & Organic Products, Gold Canyon Candles, Longaberger Baskets & Pottery, The Pampered Chef, Scentsy, Tastefully Simple, and Tupperware.  Pet products will be available from:  Cool Dog Gear and Jaye’s Barkery.  Artisans’ work includes items from:  A Single Suggestion, Alemah Boutique, Lucky Richardson Knit & Crochet, NOVICA Live Global, Threadpoets, Urban Works Textiles, and Yarn Works.  Gifts and Crafts will be displayed by:  Crafts by Judi, Hill's Handcrafts, Vickie's Crafts & Gifts, and Woodshop Will.  Jewelry will include baubles, bangles, and beads from:  Chameleon Designs, CtBling, L.O.L.-Laffing on Jewelry by Lori, Mialisia Jewelry, Origami Owl, Silpada, and Traci Lynn Jewelry.  Well-Being & Health will be covered by Great Life Chiropractic & Massage and Journey's Way.  Sweets will be provided by Just Add Love and SweetCakes.
