Flood Watch Declared For City

It will be in effect until Saturday afternoon.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Philadelphia and surrounding counties from Friday morning through Saturday afternoon.

Periods of rain and scattered thunderstorms Friday through Saturday as well as approximately three inches of rainfall Saturday will make it difficult for the already wet ground to absorb more rainfall, the weather service stated, adding that the ground is still wet from heavy rains earlier this month.

Small streams, roads and basements could see flooding. Larger rivers may be able to take the rainfall without substantial flooding but they may approach flood level, the weather service stated.
