Manayunk—Many Options for Halloween

Although the threat from Hurricane Sandy looms, Halloween festivities in Manayunk should progress Saturday. 

The Oct. 27 before Halloween brings many activities to the area on and beyond Main Street—including a temporary shut down of the thoroughfare and fall festival at Pretzel Park.

Three big events are set for Saturday in Manayunk.

1. The Hallow Yunk 5k invites runners to hit Main Street for a costume race. Organized by the Bryn Mawr Running Co., the race benefits DePaul Catholic School and starts at 9 a.m. Main Street will be closed to traffic from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday morning.

2. Trick-or-Treat along Main Street—Merchants from Manayunk shops invite kids to stop by for daytime trick-or-treating. Doors marked with a fall display will distribute candy to costumed kids.

3. Pretzel Park Fall Festival

Making its inaugural appearance, the Friends of Pretzel Park will hosts an all-day festival at the park, located at the corner of Cotton and Cresson Streets. From 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., fall activities will be all over the park.

Specific events include:

Face Painting: 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Fall Scene Family Photos: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. 

Costumed Dog Parade: 11 a.m

Live Music: noon - 6 p.m.

Children's Costume Parade and Contest: 1 p.m. - 2 p.m.

Pumpkin Painting: 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Dance Performance: 2:30 p.m., by Merge Dance Studio 

Twilight Screening of the Bela Lugosi movie, Voodoo Man: 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. This features a guest appearance by Stella - Host of Saturday Night Dead.
