Red Cross Shelters Hundreds as Sandy Hits

Hundreds of people, dozens of pets seek shelter from the storm.

The American Red Cross worked with local and county governments to set up 14 shelters in the suburbs and the city of Philadelphia. All together the Red Cross reports 619 people and 53 pets were sheltered from the storm in five Southeastern Pennsylvania locations:

West Philly High School             243 people, 8 pets

Roxborough High School               55 people, 6 pets

Samuel Fels High School                81 people, 15 pets

MONTGOMERY COUNTY

Pottstown High School                  25 people, 3 pets

Cheltenham High School               10 people

Norristown High School                 30 people

DELAWARE COUNTY

East Lansdowne Elementary       14 people

Showalter S & D                              10 people

Ridley Middle School                     17 people

CHESTER COUNTY

Avon Grove High School                58 people

Lionville Middle School                  16 people 7 pets

BUCKS COUNTY

Palisades High School                     6 people, 5 pets

Pennsbury East High School         52 people, 9 pets
