Roxborough Friends Host 2nd Fundraiser

Ridge Avenue branch invites public to JD McGilllicuddys Thursday.

Hoping to grow its local support, Friends of the Roxborough Library will host a second annual fundraiser this week.

Jackie Merchant, local friends president, announced the Dec. 13 event at JD McGillicuddys on Leverington Avenue in Roxborough.

"The Friends of the Roxborough Library is a nonprofit organization. Our mission is to support the Roxborough branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia," she said in an email. "We are currently fundraising for our exterior revitalization project, which is well underway, and for a variety of programming for children, adults and seniors including concerts, magic shows, and garden and finance workshops."

Over the past years, interest in the library—and money diverted to it—has increased. In addition to resident donations, others have given money to the Roxborough branch.

The Free Library of Philadelphia itself allocated money for a new elevator in 2014. Philadelphia City Councilman Curtis Jones, Jr. (D-4th) also earmarked money for a new sign and landscaping.
