Roxborough Remembers 9/11 Tuesday

21st Ward Veterans Associations hosts vigil at Gorgas Park Sept. 11.

Continuing an annual tradition of remembrance, the 21st Ward Veterans' Association will host a 9/11 vigil service Tuesday night in .

Starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, the Roxborough community will gather at the Ridge Avenue park near the war memorial for a candlelit service featuring local veterans, police and fire officials, and clergy members.

"The challenge to eradicate the world of terrorism continues to be a difficult battle. We must show our strong support for these brave men and women as they fight for the future freedom of civilization of the world," veterans association President Bruce Hoffman said. "All members of our community are encouraged to attend and show that America still stands strong and will not cave in to violent acts of terrorism."

Additionally, Boy Scouts from Troop 334 will collect worn and damaged flags, which will be retired in a formal flag ceremony at Gorgas Park in April 2013.
