Santa, Tree Lighting and Ice Carol on Main Street Saturday

Annual holiday ceremony kicks of season Dec. 1.

Manayunk gets a jump on the holiday season Saturday with its annual winter festivities throughout the day.

With a tree lighting ceremony, Santa on Ice and, of course, the Main Street shopping available, Manayunk welcomes residents and out-of-towners to enjoy some holiday cheer.

For the past several years, the Manayunk Development Corporation has cultivated a relationship with professional ice carvers, which culminated with two Manayunk on Ice festivals.

That continues Saturday as Santa Claus himself comes to Main Street. He will receive children so they can share their Christmas wishes, seated on a throne of ice.

Professional ice carver Rob Capone will carve Santa’s sleigh out of a block of ice, staring at 1 p.m. Santa will see kids through 4 p.m. at Canal View Park (Main and Conarroe Streets).

After dark—and possibly a meal on Main Street—Manayunk officially begins the holiday season with the tree lighting ceremony, starting at 6 p.m., also at Canal View Park.

Radio station B101 will broadcast live, and music and dance performances also will occur.
