Saturday's Set To be a Veteran's Day at Gorgas Park

The 21st Ward Veterans Association is holding its third annual Veterans Tribute Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in.

"The intent [of this event] is to show our gratitude for the sacrifice that the men and women of our armed forces continue to make," a release from the 21st Ward stated. "This is only our small way of showing these fine veterans that their commitment to our country has not been forgotten."

The day's activities will feature fun, food and music. Local Boy and Girl Scout Troops as well as civic associations will be on hand. Below is a more detailed schedule of events provided by the 21st Ward: 

10:30 a.m.: Veterans from Coatesville, VA will arrive with a motorcycle escort from several different veterans groups including Operation Bedding, Warriors Watch, Hero's Welcome and Legion Riders. Veterans, scouts and volunteers will participate in a flag-covered walk of of honor led by the Roxborough ROTC Color Guard. Each veteran will be escorted to his or her seat for the concert and picnic. 

11 a.m.: The Merion Tribute Band, under the direction of Nathan Snyder, will a play a selection of military, popular and classical music. 

12 p.m.: The Old Academy Players will perform a scene from their one-act play, "The Sneeze."

12:30 p.m. The Merion Concert Band will take the stage once more. 

2:30 p.m. The Coatesville Veteran's will depart. 

Throughout the day the 4th of July Parade Committee will be holding a bake sale, all proceeds will go toward funding next year's parade.
