Top 5 Places to Stay Cool in Roxborough

We're having a heat wave. Find the best places to cool off locally.

The Philadelphia area is under a excessive heat warning all week with heat indexes expected to top 100 degrees.

Staying cool is not just about comfort, for some people it’s about safety. Weather like this puts everyone, but especially the very young and older adults, at risk.

Here’s Roxborough Patch’s list of the top places to keep cool in Northwest Philadelphia:

1. Libraries: Roxborough and Andora libraries all offer air conditioning, plus, free books.

2. Grocery Stores: Now’s a good time to take your time getting some groceries, walking the aisles in the air conditioning and enjoying the refrigerated section. There's a plethora of grocery stores in Roxborough including the Acme, the ShopRite and Super Fresh.

3. Go See a Movie: Movie theaters are nicely air conditioned and you can spend a few hours enjoying a movie while keeping cool. The United Artist Theater on Main Street in Manayunk is your closest options.

4. The Mall: Have you been to the King of Prussia Mall lately? Or the Plymouth Meeting Mall. Both malls are a fair drive away, but it could be an easy way to kill a few hours in the air conditioning

5. The Philadelphia Art Museum: This is one of my favorite spots in the city.  Also, it's temperature controlled because heat and humidity are art's worst enemy.  Also, if you take SEPTA there, it is also air conditioned.
