Two Winners Celebrate in Roxborough Slogan Contest

Margie Walsh and Jennie Tis crafted the winning slogan combo.

Incorporating the natural, neighborhood and familial elements that makeup the neighborhood, the unveiled a new slogan Tuesday.

Combining two residents' submission, the RDC decided on this—"Roxborough: Family, Community and Nature Since 1690."

JoAnn Desper, who chairs the RDC Promotions Committee, helped implement the contest to better brand Roxborough.

"We ended up not even being able to choose just one. We chose two winners and combined their sentiments to bring you the best of Roxborough," she said.

RDC Executive Director Bernard Guet said the contest stemmed from talks of better getting the Roxborough name out there. Resident Paul Selbst originated the contest.

"Roxborough is not ever mentioned or thought about (by the city at large), and yet it's a wonderful place to be, it's a great place to live in, it's a great place to work in..." Selbst said. "We want to make sure that people know about it."

More than , and the RDC merged Marge Walsh and Jennie Tis's submissions.

A resident for nearly 50 years, Walsh originally submitted "Relaxed, family community." She was happy with the combined slogan.

"It's very nice to commemorate it this way, and I like the fact we put the year on it, too," she said.

Walsh, like Tis, has volunteered her time with the RDC.

Tis is a stay-at-home mom, and wanted to give back.

"I liked the slogan just because it was everything that was important to me in Roxborough. I think it's a good way to identify it for people who weren't from the area," she said.

Guet also thanked contest sponsor and president Chris McGill, for helping the nonprofit with the initiative.
