Art Part of Roxborough's Future

Development corporation and arts group hold silent auction.

A joint project by two Roxborough groups seeks to cement art as synonymous with Ridge Avenue.

and the will host a benefit on Thursday for local art.

"The RDC/MRAC silent auction is not just a silent auction, but a celebration of our neighborhood's interest in promoting the arts in Roxborough," said Bernard Guet, executive director of RDC. "A special thanks to our members, friends and volunteers who have donated items for our first joint fundraiser with the MRAC."

On May 3, from 6 to 9 p.m. the RDC will host the auction at its 6111 Ridge Ave. location. The RDC said approximately 400 people are anticipated to attend. Often, the group displays local work at its Ridge Avenue office.

Located on Green Lane, the MRAC hosts monthly art shows and poetry readings, in addition to classes. The organization is a nonprofit with about 100 members.

The event will serve as a dual art show and silent auction. In addition to numerous original works on display, people may bid on wares from artists, restaurants, hotels, and businesses who donated works to be sold off.

Roxborough's and volunteers will provide complimentary starters and refreshments. People are also encouraged to BYOB.

Symbolized by a sun rising over the Ridge, the event's promotional materials look to promote the revitalization of Roxborough arts.
