Christmas Concert

PHILADELPHIA, PA – A long standing tradition at Chestnut Hill College, the 35th annual Carol Night will take place on Friday, December 2, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. in the Rotunda of St. Joseph Hall. The College campus is located at 9601 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia.

This holiday celebration includes student performances by the Wind and Jazz Ensemble, the Hill Singers, and the Men’s Singing Group. The program will include a lively selection of holiday favorites and features a visit from Santa.

In keeping with College tradition, the Rotunda and campus will be decorated for the holiday season, courtesy of the undergraduate classes of Chestnut Hill. This holiday decorating tradition, celebrating its 84th year, was started by the first graduating class at Chestnut Hill College in 1927.

The annual Christmas Concert will take place on Saturday, December 3, at 3 p.m. at Cathedral Village in Roxborough and on Sunday, December 4, at 3 p.m. in the College Auditorium. The Christmas concert features the Chestnut Hill College Community Chorus directed by Doris Schmauk and The Philadelphia Doctors’ Chamber Orchestra directed by Fawzi Habboushe, M.D.

The program will include special medleys of Christmas carols and songs including the opening of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Cantata 140, excerpts of George Bizet’s Carmen, and the Hallelujah chorus from Handel’s Messiah.

Carol Night and the Christmas concerts are free and open to the public. For more information about Carol Night or the Christmas concerts, contact Kathleen McCloskey, SSJ, at 215.248.7194 or e-mail kmcclosk@chc.edu
