Sharon Katz and The Peace Train

Nominated for a Grammy for “Best World Music Album” for their first U.S. release, the exhilarating, multicultural, South African band of Sharon Katz & The Peace Train helped Nelson Mandela usher in the ending of apartheid.

Making history in 1992 with her 500-voice multiracial choir, Sharon then organized a courageous tour on board a train—The Peace Train—taking 150 musicians and her friends Ladysmith Black Mambazo across South Africa to spread their musical message of peace and unity in advance of Mandela’s election as the country’s president.

Please join us for this dynamic music and dance performance as Sharon shares her message of peace, her story of living under apartheid in South Africa, and its parallels to the U.S. civil rights movement.

This event is free, open to the public, and families and children are welcome to attend.

The Willow Grove and Cherokee Parents Associations and the Affinity Group for Families of Color are proud to sponsor this performance of Sharon Katz and the Peace Train as part of our Black History Month celebration at SCH Academy.
