"Sunset with the Son" Community Worship Services

Join your neighbors at Gorgas Park at 6pm on August 12 for the second of three scheduled worship services near the war memorial. A different church provides its own flavor to each week’s event.Great music, personal journey stories, and brief messages on Bible passages are part of each night’s activities. The series is a collaborative effort an informal consortium of churches and ministries known as the Northwest Christian Alliance (NCA).

This Sunday’s host is Leverington Presbyterian Church. In the spirit of cooperation that has long characterized these gatherings folks from Pilgrim Church will provide technical assistance to Leverington’s praise team. The guest speaker is Dr. Ed Gross, a Roxborough resident and former pastor at Pilgrim. Dr. Gross is presently the Coordinator of Strategic Alliances for CityNet Ministries and a
part-time faculty member at Back to the Bible Training Center in South Africa. His recent preaching and teaching ministry has been devoted to extolling the costs and rewards of being a “disciple,” or committed follower of Christ, rather than merely wearing a Christian label.

Available seating is limited, and as many as 150 have come out for these services, so lawn chairs or blankets are a good idea. In the event of rain the service will take place across the street at Leverington Presbyterian Church, located at the corner of Ridge Ave. and Hermitage St.

Feel free to drop in and participate. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people, connect (or re-connect) with your spiritual side, and spend some time at a local park that is truly a community treasure. If you want to play it incognito
you can hover outside the “zone of involvement” at a nearby park bench. Or bring the kids and hang out in the playground. You shouldn’t have any problem hearing!
