Bicyclist Pronounced Dead on Towpath

The 49-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene by medics after he appeared to fall of his bicycle.

A 49-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene in the 4700 block of Umbria Street on Tuesday at 3:37 p.m., police said.

A witness walking in one direction saw the man riding his bicycle on the towpath in a slow and labored manner, police said.  When the witness turned around and begin walking back she saw the man lying on his side with the bicycle on the ground.

Several people were standing over to the man, and police said he was unconscious.

Medics then arrived on the scene and began performing CPR, police said.  The man was pronounced dead at the scene by the medics.

Police would not release the name of the man, but they did say that they believed he was from the area.

Police are investigating the cause of death, but they do not suspect foul play.
