Central Roxborough Sends Out Fast Food Survey

The Central Roxborough Civic Association wants resident opinions on the former Bunting House site.

The Central Roxborough Civic Association sent out a survey asking residents for their opinions about whether or not a .

Last week, the owners and developers of the site, the Giovannone Brothers, met with members of the community to discuss ideas for the site.

“Wendy’s is not set in stone,” Frank Giovannone told the crowd of more than 100 gathered for the Central Roxborough Civic Association last week.  “We are concerned about how people feel.”

Several residents at the meeting expressed a strong desire for something other than a fast food restaurant to be built on the site.

Among the suggested development plans were a Panera Bread, an Olive Garden, a food co-op and a mixed use building with retail on the ground level and apartments or condos above it.

Giovannone acknowledged that these were all good ideas, but that the size of the lot limited what could be built there.

“It’s less than an acre,” Giovannone said.  “Certain businesses don’t fit.”

Most food chains have a set of requirements for developers to meet in order for construction to move forward.

Developers need to meet requirements for parking and space.

Giovannone argued that the Bunting House site doesn’t meet a lot of those requirements, but that he was willing to listen to all suggestions.

“Whatever we build there we want it to be responsible,” Giovannone said.  “We live in this community, and we understand what it means to be apart of it.”
