Hair Jazz Duo Celebrates 25 Years of Success

Husband and wife team Joe and Nancy Barr, co-owners of , met in eighth grade.

“We were only friends and reacquainted in 1983. We both attended hair school at Gordon Phillips on Ridge Avenue in Roxborough in the 1970’s but went at different years and worked at different salons. I started working at Head of Time where Joe was working in 1984 and we decided to open our own salon in 1986. We were married in 1987,” Nancy said.

And Tuesday marked the the hair-cutting couple's 25th anniversary of the Hair Jazz salon.

The salon currently has a staff of eight hair stylists, two assistants and one massage therapist.
Services include men, women and children with everything from ear piercing to airbrush make-up.

“We have organic hair color and highlighting and Keratin treatments. We have the usual cuts, styling, perms, straightening, full body waxing, feather extensions, (Swedish) massage, formal styling and wedding parties,” said Nancy.

And for the 25th anniversary week, Hair Jazz will offer free champagne for clients.

Both Joe and Nancy have been in the beauty industry for over 30 years.

“Joe loves the precision of hair cutting the most and I love coloring. We thought this would be a great team to start and we have been blessed with wonderful employees, friends, clients and family throughout the years,” she said. “Our staff is young and really excited about the beauty industry and learning and educating themselves with the latest cuts, styles, trends and techniques.”

The couple plans on always offering additional services with whatever new features the beauty and hair industry has to offer.
Joe and Nancy like to provide a personal touch and message to current and future clients.
