Italian Flavor for St. Paddy's Day

Cafe Roma Pastry's selling their Irish treats.

Since 1979, the Roma family has called Ridge Avenue the home of its Italian bakery. And every year,  bakes fresh daily cakes, cookies and other delicacies for every holiday—including St. Patrick's Day.

"The girls like to decorate the shop, and we put together the green Shamrock cookies, and, of course, offer Irish potatoes," Franco Roma said, adding that green frogs are ready, too.

With his father and brother, Roma mans the shop at 6147 Ridge Ave. The bakers have owned this larger space for about 8 years after moving down the Ridge. The Roma's say they are prepared for any and all holidays.

"We have zeppole for St. Joseph's Day, hamantaschen for Purim and are getting ready for Easter," he said.

So far, only limited items are in for Easter, which falls on April 8 this year. Patrons can buy chocolate covered eggs from Italy currently, with more items arriving before the holiday.

Roma also said there's no deadline for ordering pastries for Easter—they'll take orders up until the day.

But for now, St. Patrick's Day treats are available through March 17.
