KINGS Barber Shop Caters to Men and Women’s Styles

KINGS Barber Shop opened last month.

Owner Engels Robles of KINGS Barber Shop on Main Street has been a professional barber for six years and says he was looking to open a shop where he could be a part of the neighborhood.

“I was looking for an area that I would be a good asset for the community," he said. “This is a new business model for me and I am very excited to be a part of the Manayunk community.”

Originally from the Dominican Republic, he and his colleague and good friend Luis James, have known each other for many years and work side by side in the establishment.

The business currently is the first floor of the building with a waiting area, two black leather salon chairs and a large flat screen television.

“We also look forward to having refreshments and video games available with a sofa so that our waiting clients can be very comfortable once we accumulate more business,” Engels said. “Business has started out OK and is picking up as we become more well-known.”

Don't let the flat screen and video games fool you, this barbershop is not just for men.

“The majority of our clients are men and boys. However, we do cut women’s hair who have a short hair cut and want a trim, fade or shape-up as well,” Engels added. “We also offer to wash our clients hair.”

KINGS Barber Shop also specializes in all types of hair, offering straight razor services as well as shave and hot towel services.
Engels wants to give competitive pricing to his current and future clients.

A special grand opening price offers haircuts at $12, shape-ups at $7 and a shave with a hot towel at $10. The price will increase slightly after the grand opening has ended in a few weeks.

For those looking for a career in the beauty industry, a help wanted sign adorns the window out front.

“I am looking for a licensed barber who has a desire to join our community,” said Engels.

Aiming to please and be a permanent addition to Manayunk, the barbershop duo plans to grow with the business.

“My dream is to serve the community well and for KINGS Barber Shop to be prosperous in Manayunk,” he said. “We welcome everyone to give us a try. They won't be disappointed.”

Current hours of operation are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
