Manayunk Boutique Competes in Flower Show Display Contest

Worn Yesterday will show off Hawaiian floral display.

While the February cold is still lingering, tropical islands, like those of Hawaii, sound pretty good right now. While we can’t all jet set to Maui, one Manayunk consignment shop will bring the Aloha spirit to Main Street as part of the Philadelphia International Flower Show.

For the third straight year, will deck out its display window in a contest with shops across the city in celebration of this year's flower show theme: "Hawaii: Islands of Aloha."

The Philadelphia Horticultural Society, the driving force behind the international flower show, announced which shops and offices are participating in the annual window-decorating contest. Beginning Feb. 17, shops across the city will show off their Hawaiian designs.

Davida Levin has owned the shop for 25 years. When she moved to its current location at 4228 Main St., she wanted to take advantage of its great window. Levin even took home a prize one year as the most festive window in the "Passport to the World" theme, which featured loads of European designs.

As the lone Manayunk participant this year, Levin promises lots of "Aloha, grass skirts and lays" during the contest.

"Because I sell children's clothing, I usually have Hawaiian shirts, shorts with flowers on them and lots of flower accessories," she said.

Flower show designers will decorate more than 65 windows around the city, and winners will be picked on different categories, including Most Creative and Best Interpretation of Flower Show Theme. The winners will be announced March 2.

The Philadelphia International Flower Show will be running March 4-11 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
