New Salon Open On Main

Salon Fedora opened Nov. 26.

For about a week now Jamie Valoris has been living a dream.

"I've always wanted to own my own salon but it's something that I never thought would actually happen," she said inside her new salon on Main Street Thursday.

Salon Fedora took the place of Glow and opened Nov. 26, just three weeks after Valoris got the keys to the place.

"It's still a work in progress," she said. "But I wanted to get it up and running."

And she was able to do that with some bright wallpaper, accent pieces and furniture. When asked how she would want her new salon describes she said, "bright, clean, friendly, modern and chic."

Valoris said she knew from a young age that she wanted to be in the beauty business. So, after pleasing her parents and getting a degree in business management from Temple, she enrolled in beauty school.

"I love doing hair, I would do it all day if I could," she said. "I love trying new things and braching out."

The stylist has worked in the area for seven years and said Manayunk is a place she wanted to stay.

"It's awesome here, there is such a great mix of people," she said.

What sets her new spot apart from other salons on Main Street? She's hoping customer service.

"I want this to be much more quaint than other salons," she said. "We really want to focus on customer service."

The pampering begins when customers walk in the door and are offered a complimentary glass of wine and cheese.

"I know what's it's like to come home from work totally drained," she said. "I want this to be a relaxing experience for the customer."

The salon currently offers hair cuts, colors, extension and makeup. Once the renovations are complete, the salon will offer salon services such as waxing, facials and massages.

Fedora is open seven days a week and offers student discounts on Mondays and Tuesday. A 20 percent discount on will be offered to new clients until Dec. 15.

Although the salon hasn't even been open a week, Valoris said they're already generating a buzz.

"In just a few days we've already have five walk-ins," she said. "We've definitely had interest."
