Restaurant Extended for Second Week

Manayunk Restaurant Week offers $10, $20 and $30 menu options.

Due to the first week's success, the inaugural Manayunk Restaurant Week will be extended one week, the Manayunk Development Corporation said.

Offering $10, $20 and $30 prix-fixe menu options at eateries on and off Main Street, the restaurant week debuted Sunday and was scheduled to wrap up Friday. Jane Lipton, MDC executive director, said Oct. 3 the crowd's reception has enabled the district to push it through Oct. 12.

"Based on our amazing success and overwhelming demand, we've decided to extend it another week," Lipton said.

In a news release, the MDC said the StrEAT Food Festival "reawakened area food-enthusiasts to the wonderful, eclectic offerings" in Manayunk and by the restaurant week's fourth day, it was obvious it needed to continue.

The event, which impacts these restaurants, is in line with Center City Restaurant Week, an event that lasts for two week. However for Main Street's first stab at the preset menu options, eateries opted for the more conservative one week.

Lipton said the success was hard to argue with.

"Now 'Restaurant Week' is sustaining that momentum—so much so that we decided to let the good times roll for another week.  And more people in our restaurants means more people in our shop—this has been a great win-win for the entire community. It’s so gratifying,” she said.

Technically, Lipton said this Saturday wouldn't be included, but she encouraged people to ask restaurants for the prix-fixe options and see if merchants will offer it.
