Rocky Brawls at Old Eagle Tuesday

Monthly dinner and movie at Markle Street bar features 'Rocky IV.'

The Cold War might be over, but the fight will be rekindled Tuesday night at the  on the Terrace and Markle Street corner.

As part of the bar's monthly "Dinner, Beer & a Movie" night, the Old Eagle presents themed food and alcoholic beverages based on Rocky IV Feb. 28 at 7 p.m.

"We try to pick a movie that can appeal to everyone and pair it with a good beer—sometimes it's a stretch, sometimes it's not as hard. And the food is easy," owner Erin Wallace said.

The Old Eagle began the monthly cinema feast in September. Wallace said she's enjoyed pairing food and beers with films like The Godfather and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.

Know for its ample beer selections, the Old Eagle prides itself on great craft brews, Wallace said. She herself is respected citywide and serves on the Philadelphia Beer Week Committee.

The Background on Old Eagle

Prior to any tavern dreams, Wallace and her husband took a trip to Germany.

"We were with a bunch of Americans, and the people kept drinking Budweiser. For us, we stuck with the local German beers and fell in love," she said. When they returned home they toured Philly for exotic and flavorful beers.

Wallace used that as a basis for her own bar, which she acquired nine years ago with her husband's father.

"When I started to open the bar, I wanted to find a place where my husband and I would want to drink at," she said.

She accomplished that by varying the Old Eagle's offerings and partnering with local brewers. Wallace also highlights a brewery of the month, with Yards the February feature.

Working off the Yards Brawler and Yards Russian Imperial Stout, Wallace logically concluded a boxing movie with a Russian foe makes sense—hence Rocky IV.

For food, the Old Eagle will present borscht and beef stroganoff with egg noodles (Russian) with soft pretzels with Russian Imperial Stout mustard, cheesesteak spring rolls with Sriracha ketchup and deep fried Tastykakes (representing Philly).

The bar turns off all music and other TVs, while focusing on the largest screen. Food starts at 7 p.m., with the opening bell on Rocky IV at 7:15 p.m. There's no cover to enter.
