North American Butterfly Association 4th of July Butterfly Count

Where/When: Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education, 8480 Hagy’s Mill Rd, on Sunday in the morning (call 215.482.7300 x 110 or email scee@schuylkillcenter.org for registration and exact time)

Why Go: Help gather data on the butterflies of our region by participating in the annual North American Butterfly Association's count. Butterfly watchers of all levels are welcome. 

Pricing: $3 for all participants over the age of 12, payable to NABA

First Person Arts Story Slam

Where/When: Venetian Social Club, 8030 Germantown Ave, on Friday at 7:30 p.m. 

Why Go: In conjunction with the Chestnut Hill Book Festival, this “Best in Philly” monthly storytelling competition comes to Germantown Avenue. Come out and compete if you have a story to tell, or enjoy hearing those who do.

Pricing: $10 at door, $8 for members

3rd Annual Chestnut Hill Book Festival

Where/When: Multiple venues, 8000-8300 Germantown Ave, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m.-9 p.m.

Why Go: Celebrate storytelling, books, music, and more in this two-day festival filled with readings, workshops and tips from successful authors, as well as a kids’ festival at Jenks at 10 a.m. Saturday morning and an outdoor singer/songwriter slam in Buckley Park on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Where/When: Weaver’s Way Coop, 559 Carpenter Lane, Thursday from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Why Go: Eat delicious hot grilled food, listen to music, and support local vendors, including Volta Soap/Valley Green Coffee and local craftspeople selling handmade jewelry, wooden crafts, and ceramics.
