Well, we went through a lot of trouble finding six activities happening around Manayunk this weekend, and it'd be nice if somebody went to them.

Morris Arboretum Arbor Day Adventure Treasure Hunt

Where/When: Morris Arboretum, Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: Celebrate the importance of trees at Morris Arboretum’s annual Arbor Day celebration. This interactive family event will begin high in the tree canopy on Out on a Limb, where visitors will receive a treasure hunt map. From there, they will experience trees up-close and learn about the many reasons we need trees. Arboretum trees will provide the basis for a tree adventure treasure hunt including four Tree Activity stations. Interactive activities will focus on tree care, tree protection, where trees come from, and what trees give us. Visitors who complete the exploration will receive a seedling to take home.

Pricing: $16 adults; $14 seniors; $7 youth, student, active military, and hike/bike/SEPTA arrivals.

 

Chestnut Hill Meals on Wheels Game Night & Silent Auction

Where/When: Little Treehouse, 10 W. Gravers Lane, Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Why Go: Leave the little ones at home and enjoy a night out to benefit deserving clients of Chestnut Hill Meals on Wheels, featuring your favorite games, great food, craft brews, a silent auction, and more.

Pricing: $35 per person at the door; $30 if tickets bought in advance online at http://www.chestnuthillmow.com/

 

15th Annual Chestnut Hill Home and Garden Festival

Where/When: Germantown Ave in Chestnut Hill, Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: Spend some time outside enjoying live music, food, yoga for children, face painting, vendors offering sustainable products from organic plants to electric bikes, and of course many plants, flowers, and seedlings! Chestnut Hill blossoms into an outdoor garden marketplace with orchids, hanging baskets, garden sculpture, and much more.

Words at Play with Whimsical Sage

Where/When: Big Blue Marble Bookstore, 551 Carpenter Lane, on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Why Go: Join in one hour of magical fun as we celebrate words and language in this reading from the book The Whimsical Sage: Words at Play for All Ages. A free copy of the book will be given to participants to keep or share.

Pricing: Free

 

7th Annual Native Plant Sale at the Schuylkill Center

Where/When: The Schuylkill Center, 8480 Hagy’s Mill Rd. Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. is the Members’ Only Preview Sale, with the public Native Plant Sale on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Why Go: The Native Plant Sale features over 100 species of trees, shrubs, wildflowers for sun and shade, grasses, ferns, and vines. Whether you’re just starting out with a new garden or adding to your collection of native plants, they have a selection to suit every garden’s needs. Staff horticulturists and Audubon advisors will be on hand to assist you with your garden makeover!

Pricing: It's free to attend and plants priced individually.

 

Where/When: Roxborough Development Corp, 6148 Ridge Ave and the Manayunk-Roxborough Art Center, 419 Green Lane (rear), on Sunday from noon to 3 p.m.

Why Go: Featured youth artists from Manayunk-Roxborough Art Center, Cook-Wissahickon Elementary School, Holy Child Catholic School, Roxborough High School, Dobson Elementary School, and Levering Elementary School.
