Weekend Planner: Halloween Edition

A look at festive events going on in Roxborough and Manayunk this weekend

Zombie Ball: Lucky's Last Chance on Main Street is hosting a Zombie Ball Friday. There is no cover for the event and a live DJ will be on the second floor. Drink specials will be offered from 9 to 11 p.m. and there will be a cash prize for the best zombie.

Meet The Author: Louis Pecsi, the creator of "Nosferatu: The Untold Origins" will be at Friday at 6:30 p.m. "for an evening of thrills and chills." The graphic novelist will discuss his work that features a 15th century crusader burns a witch at the sake for her refusal to worship the God of Rome and the curse that is put on him after her death. 

HallowYunk 5k: The walk/run benefits DePaul Catholic School and will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday. People interested in participating can register online and meet at on Main Street before the event. A reception will be held at following the event.

Trick-Or-Treat Costume Parade: From 12 to 4 p.m. Saturday, youngsters can strut this year's costume down Main Street and trick-or-treat at a number of local businesses.

Pumpkin Carving Contest: A pumpking carving contest will be held from 12 to 4 p.m. in Canal View Park. Participants can bring their own pumpkins or purchase one at Master pumpkin carver Peter Slavin will also be at the event and a cash prize will be awarded for the best pumpkin.

Halloween In Pretzel Park: The 12- 4 p.m. event on Saturday will feature Hallowween songs from 12 to 3 p.m., pumpkin painting from 12 to 4 p.m. (pumpkins and supplies will be provided) and a story hour featuring scary stories from 3 to 4 p.m.

St. Alban's Game Night: second game night will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. and is Halloween-themed, people are encouraged to wear costumes. Admission is free and food will be available for purchase. 

10th Annual Boo Fest: Boo Fest, which benefits will be held at from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Saturday. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door. The tickets include drink specials, DJ/karaoke and food and snacks.
