Wendy's Debate Turns to Social Media

Both sides of the Roxborough Wendy's debate take to social media like Facebook.

The battle over whether or not to construct a Wendy's at 5901 Ridge Ave. at the former site of the Bunting House at the corner of Ridge and Roxborough Avenues has jumped to Facebook with rival pages.

The Roxborough Wendy's page has more than 900 likes and is being run by the same people who run the Roxborough Wendy's website.

There is also a Roxborough Residents Against Wendy's page that has more than 400 likes.

There have also been claims of cyber bullying after a third site that's in favor of the Wendy's went after a member of the community who has been particularly vocal in her opposition of the Wendy's.

The Roxborough Wendy's page run by the project developers immediately condemned the actions of the third party site, and some of the objectionable material was taken down.

Still, with this much passion on both sides, there's not a whole lot of concrete information out there.

Plans for the Wendy's construction have been filed with the city, but no permits have been pulled to begin construction.

Josh Cohen from Councilman Curtis Jones' office as well as Matt Wysong from the Planning Commission have both said that in order to build a drive-thru at that location the developers would need a special exception from the city's Zoning Board of Appeal.

As of Sept. 17, there has been no hearing scheduled at the zoning board for 5901 Ridge Ave. through Nov. 5.

That's not to say it won't be.  Just that a hearing has not yet been scheduled.

The Central Roxborough Civic Association will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, Oct. 3, at 7:30 p.m. at Leverington Presbyterian Church.

It is at that time that the issue will most likely be discussed.
