Following closely on the footsteps of UPS Office, a chicken wing restaurant will soon open on Ridge Avenue. And, according to Philadelphia City Paper, rapper Rick Ross indirectly had a hand in it.
Located at 6024 Ridge Ave. in the Roxborough Commons, a Wingstop is set to open. The store has signage indicating its arrival and comes just after the grand opening of next-door-neighbor UPS Office, which officially cut the ribbon Monday.
City Paper reported in April that local restauranteur Richard Johnson was inspired by Ross' involvement with Wingstop to purchase his own. At that time, Roxborough was one of several places on Johnson's wish list.
Billing itself as "the wing experts," Wingstop has more than 500 franchises across the United States and Mexico, according to its website.
Wingstop's store locator indicates that the closest shops are either in New York—Brooklyn and Queens—or Baltimore. However, there is a shop at Temple University.
