Flood Watch Declared For City

The watch is in effect from Wednesday afternoon through late Wednesday evening.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Philadelphia and surrounding counties from Wednesday afternoon through late Wednesday night.

Rain, that is expected to be havy at times, is expected drop nearly 2-inches of rainfall throughout the area and rainfall amounts exceeding two inches will increase the likelihood of creek and smaller river flooding, the weather service stated.

Poor drainage flooding may occur and motorists are urged to take roadways that are not next to creeks and smaller rivers or those that are prone to flooding.

The heavier rain should impact the Wednesday afternoon and evening commute and the effects from potential flooding could persist into the Thursday morning commute.

A changeover to snow could limit the flood potential in the far northwest part of the current watch area, the weather service stated.
