Heat Index Expected to Reach 110 Friday

The National Weather Service has extended its excessive heat warning until Saturday evening.

With heat indexes expected to reach 110 degrees Friday and 105 to 110 degrees on Saturday, the National Weather Service has extended its excessive heat warning until 8 p.m. Saturday. 

Peak heat index values are expected in the afternoon with the worst conditions predicted Friday afternoon, a release from the weather service stated, adding that even during the nighttime hours, temperatures are not expected to dip below 80 degrees. 

To stay safe in such dangerous heat, people are urged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun, keep pets in a cool location with plenty of water and check in on elderly relatives or neighbors.

If possible strenuous outdoor activity should be scheduled for the early morning or late evening hours, the service stated, adding that people working outside should know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
