On May 4, Gas Prices Reach New Heights

Patch takes a look at local prices at the pump.

The weather was gloomy today and, unfortunately for locals, the fuel outlook isn't much brighter.

According to a quick survey of petrol stations in and around Roxborough and Manayunk, local prices have reached new highs for 2011. At the seven stations we counted, prices rose between six and 14 cents per gallon in the last eight days alone.

As of the early afternoon hours of May 4, the cheapest place to purchase gasoline within our Patch was the Wawa on 6608 Ridge Avenue, where regular unleaded is available for a cash price of $4.00. The most expensive station is the BP on 5643 Ridge Avenue, where regular unleaded sells for $4.14--a hike of 14 cents in the last week alone.

Relief may be on the way though. Petroleum experts expect national gas prices--now at $3.96 per gallon--to climb to over $4, before dropping 25 cents by the end of the year.
