A Way In is hosting an all-day Jewish Mindfulness retreat Dec. 22 at Mishkan Shalom that combines Jewish liturgy and texts with sitting and walking meditation and Jewish yoga.
The event, led by Rabbi Yael Levy, director of the A Way In Jewish Mindfulness program, begins with a contemplative Shabbat service from 10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., followed by lunch. (Participants are asked to bring a vegetarian lunch; drinks, fruit and snacks will be provided.)
The afternoon program, which begins at 1:15 p.m., will include sitting and walking meditation and Jewish yoga exercises with Rabbi Myriam Klotz, the director of yoga and embodied practices at the Institute for Jewish Spirituality and a nationally-known teacher of Jewish yoga. The retreat concludes at 5:30 p.m. following the havdalah liturgy.
All are welcome. Previous mindfulness or yoga experience is not necessary. Participants may bring a yoga mat, meditation cushion or blanket, if desired.
Participants may choose to attend either or both sessions, but are asked to commit to staying for the entire session. There is no fee, but donations are welcomed before or after Shabbat.
