College Cash ($$$) for Women - heads of household - Deadline to apply = December 15, 2011

Since 1972, Soroptimist has been helping women the world over reclaim their dreams through the Women’s Opportunity Awards program.  This program provides cash grants to women who are working to better their lives through additional skills training and education.

You are eligible to apply if you are:

• A woman with primary financial responsibility for yourself and your dependants

• Attending an undergraduate degree program or a vocational skills training program

The Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Awards program begins at the local Soroptimist club level, where the type of award varies.  (The local club, Soroptimist International of Roxborough, PA awards a 1st place award of $500 to the school of the 1st prize winner to help defray the cost of the winner’s education.)  The 1st place club winners become eligible for region awards.  Each year awards are distributed at the 28 region levels.  (In 2011 the North Atlantic Region distributed one 1st place award of $5,000 and at least five other awards of $3,000 each.)  At federation level, three finalists will be chosen from among the 1st place regional winners to receive $10,000 each. 

Recipients are chosen on the basis of having clearly defined career goals as well as financial need.

Each completed application and two references must be received before or on December 15, 2011.
