Neducsin, “Spirit of Manayunk” Scholarship Awards Partial Scholarship to Four High School Seniors

Four local high school seniors will start college in the fall thanks, in part, to Dan and Luana's Neducsin Foundation "Spirit of Manayunk" scholarship program.

An awards dinner was held Tuesday evening, July 26 at Gemelli’s Restaurant, Main Street, Manayunk. Hosted by Dan and Luana Neducsin of Neducsin Properties, Inc., a real estate development company, the dinner was attended by the 2012 scholarship recipients and their parents, Executive Director of North Light Community center, Irene A. Madrak, and scholarship selection committee members; Gina Gondos, and Drew Swift along with other guests.

Neducsin Properties has been present in this district for over 20 years, and, by establishing this partial scholarship has been able to assist families directly in the community.  It is a chance to recognize young students who have worked hard and achieved solid standings because of their community involvement, academics, sports activities while often working part-time jobs. “It has become especially important for us to give something back, directly to the community”, stated Luana Neducsin.

When asked about the scholarship program, Dan Neducsin said, “I recognize the sacrifice parents must make in today’s society to provide for their families and to meet their children’s educational needs. It is one of my greatest achievements in life to be able to develop this fund that can be of some financial assistance to these young students and their futures.”

The criteria met by the students require active community service, academic achievement, (GPA 2.6 minimum), financial need, and extracurricular activities and must reside in area zip code 19127 or 19128. Students must maintain the criteria throughout their college career and, upon doing so, will each receive $20,000 over the course of the next four years.

New applications will be available in local high school guidance offices, or can be downloaded from the Neducsin Properties website: www.neducsin  in the fall.

In addition to the scholarship awards, Mr. & Mrs. Neducsin presented Irene Madrak with a donation of $10,000 to North Light for which she gratefully replied, “Your investment in these young folks and your generosity to North Light overwhelms me in the best way.”
