North Light Community Center Receives $50,000 Grant for Teen Programs
North Light Receives Grant to Continue Teen Programs
North Light Community Center has received a $50,000 grant from the Fund for Children of The Philadelphia Foundation to support its Youth Encouragement Program (YEP). Announcement of the grant was made by R. Andrew Swinney, president of the foundation, whose board of managers approved the
grant on May 4, 2012.
Irene A. Madrak, executive director of North Light, said the funds would be used to continue the youth programs including Teens 4 Good, the Urban Sustainability Leadership Academy and the Summer Career Exploration Program. Billy Eisenberg, director of education and teen services, said, “We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with the Fund for Children of The Philadelphia Foundation to provide college and career readiness to over 400 at risk youth annually.”
North Light Community Center is a multi-service, community based non-profit organization located at 175 Green Lane. Founded in 1936, North Light’s mission is “to promote the welfare of the community, including the social, educational and
athletic development of the youth”. North Light makes a positive difference
through a variety of initiatives that support positive youth development, strengthen families and build community. Current offerings include year-round
childcare for school age children, tutoring, youth development programs, arts
and recreation, emergency supports, teen employment, and neighborhood access to technology.
