Bagged Leaf Program Begins

It began Monday and will run through Dec. 16.

The Philadelphia Streets Department's 2011 bagged leaf drive begins Monday and will run through Dec. 16 and there will be curbside collection of bagged leaves for the entire city, a release from the department stated.

Leaves will only be collected in biodegradable paper bags because they can be processed with recycling and reduce contamination in the recycling process, the release continued, adding that leaves set out in differen kinds of bags may be collected as rubbish.

Bagged leaves cannot exceed 40-pounds and the city does not provide biodegradable bags, they can be purchased at local home improvement stores.
