Pearl Harbor Remembrance Ceremony Scheduled

The ceremony will take place Sunday in Gorgas Park

The 21st Ward Veterans Association is hosting its annual Pearl Harbor services Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the Gorgas Park War Memorial in .

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor and Marine Corp veteran Ed Rhodes will be the guest speaker for the event. He will discuss the role of Battleship Nevada. 

The 21st Ward Veterans Association will have local veterans speaking and a wreath laying ceremony honoring those brave souls who sacrificed their lives in the name of freedom.

The air attack on Pearl Harbor and on the airfields of Oahu began the morning of Dec. 7, 1941. The attack sank or severely damaged 18 ships, destroyed 161 planes and seriously damaged another 102. 

The Navy and Marine Corps lost 2,117 men during the attacks and another 779 were wounded. More than 200 Army men were killed and more than 400 were injured. Nearly 60 civilians were seriously injured during the attack on Pearl Harbor.
