Shop Local with Farm-Fresh Turkey Through Co-op

Shop Local This Thanksgiving with a Farm-Fresh Turkey

Manayunk-Roxborough Food Co-op partners with local businesses for holiday market.

MANAYUNK—Continuing the cooperative spirit into the fall, the Manayunk-Roxborough Food Co-op will partner with local farms and businesses to offer residents a Nov. 27 Thanksgiving Market where people can purchase a locally sourced turkey.

The Co-op welcomes farm-fresh turkeys from Livengood Family Farm to its one-day market at The Transfer Station, 4120 Main St. Manayunk. People may pick-up preordered turkeys at the market, in addition to other goodies from Lavinia's Cookies, Mt. Pleasant Produce and the farm itself.

Throughout the summer, the Co-op welcomed vendors to its weekly Farmers Market in Pretzel Park. Now that the cold weather has arrived, the market moves indoors to one of Manayunk’s newest businesses, the Transfer Station East, for a Thanksgiving market.

From 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday Nov. 27, turkeys will be availed for pick-up. In addition, people may also peruse many other items, including—but not limited to:

  • Honeycrisp and Jona Gold apples, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, canned goods, preserves and more from Mt Pleasant Produce.
  • Trays of natural, locally sourced cookies and biscotti from Lavinia's Cookies. Available by the dozen.
  • In addition to the turkeys, Livengood Farm will offer pasture raised pork (non-GMO) and grass-fed beef, along with spinach, leeks, onions, winter squash, potatoes, strawberry jam and other goodies.

The market is a partnership with a new local business: The Transfer Station East. Brothers Adam and Simon Rogers took over the old Restoration Hardware space as temporary digs for the Transfer as they build momentum for the development of their permanent location Transfer Station West at the corner of Green Lane and Main Street. It's a co-retail, co-work space idea that is getting lots of great support.
